Albert Bradford Ashton, 89, peacefully passed away with his family by his side on March 21st, 2017 at Mountain View Nursing Home, Ossipee, NH where he and Joan, his wife of 67 years, had been residing.
Brad was born on October 4th, 1927 to Henry C. Ashton and Leola H. Ashton. He picked up a lifelong love for sailing while spending summers in Marblehead, MA as a child. After graduating from Medford high school, Brad joined the US Army and served in the Military Police in Tokyo, Japan. When he returned to the states, he met and fell in love with Joan Burpee, and they were married in 1951.
Brad and Joan settled in Norwell, MA and had three children: Richard C. Ashton, Peter B. Ashton and Meredith Ashton. After the tragic passing of their son, Peter, Brad and Joan moved to Amherst, NH, where they lived for a number of years before making Wolfeboro, NH their final home.
In the early 1950’s , Brad was working as a salesman for Bromley & Company, a gift and souvenir company based out of Boston, Mass. He purchased the company and ran it until recent health issues forced him to retire.
Outside of spending time with his family, Brad loved socializing, and could often be seen throughout Wolfeboro at various local establishments. He spent many mornings at Katie’s Kitchen having coffee and breakfast with the other regulars.
Brad is survived by his wife Joan Ashton, son Rick Ashton and daughter Meredith Ashton. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Geoff and Elizabeth Ashton, Peter VonIderstine and Amy VonIderstine Mann as well as two great grandchildren Donn and Rylee Mann.
Brad was loved dearly and will be missed by his friends and family.
A memorial gathering will be held at Mountain View Nursing Home in Ossipee, NH on Saturday April 8th from 1:30 to 2:30pm.
