Alice Noel Meserve Haslett

Loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Aunt

With great sadness, I mourn the loss of Alice Noel Meserve Haslett: my mother, my best friend, my mentor, my support system, my role model and my hero, on August 28, 2016, at her home in Freedom, NH.

Mom took on the role of head of household, sole provider and single parent as a young widow after the sudden death of her husband, William Haslett.  With the help of her oldest brother, Frank, she bought her first car – then learned to drive.  Just one example of her insurmountable spirit.

Mom loved children and they loved her back.  Her all-time favorite job was working winters at the King Pine Ski Area snack bar in Madison, NH.  To this date, members of multi-generational families still ask about mom and recite great memories from the snack bar.

Alice, born December 19, 1928, in Gilmanton Iron Works, NH, was the oldest daughter of Frank Meserve, Sr. and Marguerite Emerson Meserve, the third born in her immediate family of nine, and started at a very early age to take care of the new babies as the family grew.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Libby Priebe, and grandson, Nate Priebe, both of Freedom; her sister, Patricia Meserve Waterman of Wolfeboro, and brothers Frank Meserve, Jr. and David Meserve, both of Freedom, and many loving nieces and nephews and their families.

Alice was predeceased by her parents, brothers Gordon, Paul, Arthur and Robert and sister Thelma Meserve Harmon; her half siblings Frances Meserve Buswell, Clifton Meserve, Harlan Black, Norman Black and Richard Black.

Alice was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Freedom, having been a Sunday school teacher, member of the choir and in charge of the nursery, which she loved.  Alice had been a long time member of the Freedom Grange and was extremely proud to have been working at all the elections held in the Town of Freedom as a ballot clerk for over fifty years, having been appointed originally by Moderator Ed Stokes.

Our hopes are that Alice is running and dancing again on two good legs, reunited with Bill and all her family, loved ones and friends and is blessing heaven with her smile.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at 1:00 pm at the First Christian Church of Freedom, with a private reception for the family and immediate friends to follow at the home of Patricia Waterman in Wolfeboro.

Donations in Alice's memory may be made to any Freedom organization or charity of your choice or to the Visiting Nurse Home Care & Hospice of Carroll County, specifically marked for the Hospice Volunteer Education Fund, PO Box 432, North Conway, NH 03860 Attn: Julie Lanoie.  Words cannot adequately express how amazing Julie and her volunteers, as well as the nurses and support staff, were for both my mother and myself during this overwhelming period in our lives.
