Alvin R. White

July 8, 1928 ~ March 27, 2016 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Alvin R. White, 87, of 85 Mandalay Road, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016 at his home with his family by his side.

Alvin was born July 8, 1928 in Wolfeboro, NH the son of the late Warren and Rena (Bowering) White and had lived his entire life in the Lakes Region except for his military service years.

He was the owner and operator of Whites Construction Company in Wolfeboro, NH for fifty years.  He was the developer and original owner of North Country Village in Tuftonboro, NH.

Alvin served in the US Merchant Marines during WWII and a s SGT. In the US Army during  the Korean Conflict.  He was a decorated veteran, earning three Bronze Stars for heroic and meritorious achievement during war time service.  He was also a proud U.S. Merchant Marine Veteran.  Alvin was a dedicated 54 year member of the American Legion, Harriman Hale Post 18, Wolfeboro, NH.  He was thrilled to be able to visit the World War II and Korean War National Veterans Memorials in October of 2012 as a veteran participant of, Honor Flight New England, a moving and meaningful trip that he enjoyed.  Alvin had also served as a Police Commissioner for the Wolfeboro Police Department in Wolfeboro.

Alvin loved being “on the road again”, travelling across the country for many years with his wife, Barbara, in their home on wheels.  Motorhoming was a passion and they traveled with family and many friends, from New Hampshire to Alaska and all points in between.  He enjoyed RV camping, hunting, boating, and fishing.  One of his favorite travel adventures involved a seven year stint as a seasonal volunteer in Arizona’s Kartchner Caverns State Park where he was instrumental in helping to build the state park campground and, as a result, was formally recognized by Arizona State Parks for his dedicated service.

He was an avid snowmobiler and longtime member of the Wolfeboro Snowmobile Club.  He enjoyed riding and grooming the trails in the Lakes Region and making the trip to ride the wilderness trails in Pittsburg, NH.

Alvin had a strong love and devotion to his family and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Barbara White of Wolfeboro, NH, his son Walter White, Tuftonboro, NH; his son George White, Conway, NH; his daughter Linda Fontaine and her husband Shawn, New Durham, NH, and his stepdaughter Karen Acerno and her husband Tim, Raymond, NH, his stepson Harold Parker of Wolfeboro, NH.  He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, as well as his three siblings Rena White MacMartin, TX; Frederick White, WA; and Martha White Baxter, ID.  He was predeceased by a stepson Trooper Gary Parker, New Hampshire State Police.

Calling hours will be Friday, April 15, 2016 from 6-8PM at Lord Funeral Home, Wolfeboro, NH.  Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 11:00am in the Lakeview Cemetery, Wolfeboro, NH.

Donations in his memory may be made to either the Central NH VNA/Hospice, Wolfeboro, NH or the American Legion, Harriman Hale Post #18, Wolfeboro, NH.
