Ossipee, NH

Bruce Earl Bennett, of Ossipee, NH was born September 26, 1941 and passed away peacefully, May 27, 2017 at his home.

Bruce was the son of the late Russell & Gretchen Bennett.  He was born in Wolfeboro, NH and attended grammar school in Portsmouth, NH later graduating Exeter High School, Class of ’59.

After graduation, Bruce joined the Army and served his country for 3 years.  Upon discharge, he travelled around the country, ending up working on the barges in the Gulf of Mexico.  He became an Able-Bodied Seaman & captained barges in Saudi Arabia.  Travelling the seas became his hobby.  Bruce retired to Ossipee, buying Hanson’s farm, where he tried to live & farm as did our turn-of-the-century ancestors.

He was a member in good standing & a past Master of the Ossipee Valley Masonic Lodge #74.  He was very active in the FFA, sharing his knowledge of goats & farming in general.

Bruce is survived by his sister, Lois Hammell Sweeney & her husband, Mike; by his nephew Jeffrey Hammell & his wife, Heidi & their children, Gretchen & Helen; by many cousins; and by many Sweeney nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday June 10, 2017 at 2:00PM at Lord Funeral Home, 50 Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee, NH.  Masonic services will be held at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Ossipee Cemetery, Ossipee, NH.
