Welcome to the memorial page for

Carra Moore

December 21, 2016

Wolfeboro, NH

Carra Martha Richardson Moore, born October 22, 1927 in Wolfeboro, the second child and daughter born to Frederick and Lucy (Montgomery) Richardson, died at Mountain View Community, Ossipee, NH on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 of complications long associated with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Carra attended Carpenter School and Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, NH.  She worked summers at Camp Kehonka as a counselor, was in her senior school play “Almost Eighteen,” and was voted Class Secretary, graduating in June 1945.

She graduated from Hartford Secretarial School in Hartford, CT two years later as a medical transcriptionist/secretary.  Harrison Moore of Pleasant Valley caught her eye and they dated for 8 years before becoming engaged in early 1950, and married February 24, 1951 at First Congregational Church, Wolfeboro.

The Marine Corps life was theirs, and for 21 years they lived in a variety of places: Kittery, Maine, Honolulu, Hawaii, Oceanside, California, Yuma, Arizona, and Laurel Bay, South Carolina.  They had six children, and when Harrison retired in May 1965 they moved permanently back to their hometown of Wolfeboro.  They bought the house at 467 North Main Street and spent 49 happy years raising their family at Goose Corner, the historical Copp’s Tavern at the corner of North Main Street and Waumbec Road.

Carra worked at Huggins Hospital for 30 years as the Assistant to the President with John Waters and Les MacLeod.  She was a life-long member of First Congregational Church, sang in the church choir, and served the church as church school superintendent, youth group leader, and Moderator.  She served for many years on the board of directors at Brewster Academy and sang with the Clearlakes Chorale Community Chorus.

After Carra’s retirement from Huggins Hospital, she and her husband spearheaded the effort to form an official Peer Support Group to address issues of mental health in Carroll County.  They enjoyed traveling and took great delight in their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carra is survived by four of her children: The Reverend Carra McFadden, and her husband, John, of Dracut, MA; Leonard Moore, and his wife, Doreen, of Wolfeboro, NH; Paul Moore, and his wife, Karen, of Wolfeboro, NH; and Steven Moore, and his wife, Laura, of Belmont, NH.  She is also survived by her sister, Mary Jane Boggs of Warren, Maine; eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harrison, her son, Alden, and her daughter, Luanne.

Carra will be missed for her strength of character and resolve of mind when under fire, her organizational ability to bring administrative chaos under control, her strong faith in Christ, her brilliant smile, and her gracious, inclusive love for friends and family.

Calling hours were held at Lord Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, December 27, from 6:00-8:00PM.  The funeral service was Wednesday, December 28 at 11:00AM at First Congregational Church, Wolfeboro, officiated by the Reverend Gina Finocchiaro. Memorial donations are being accepted in Carra’s memory to First Congregational Church, P. O. Box 913, Wolfeboro, NH 03894 to the Music Fund.  The music programs at the church are an ongoing source of joy for those that sing and play, as well as listen, and choral singing brought Carra much joy.
