DONALD J. DeWOLF

On Tuesday, November 8, 2016, Donald J. Dewolf passed on at the age of 86 at the Country Village Nursing Home in Lancaster, NH.  He was born in Lincoln, NE, and soon lived in Massachusetts with his parents, L. Harold and Madeline DeWolf.  Don graduated from Newton High School and went on to the University of Massachusetts for two years before enlisting in the U. S. Marine Corps where he served as a sergeant in Korea. He then completed his degree from the University’s Stockbridge School of Agriculture.

He married Davena Rogers in 1955, and they first lived in Hartwick, MA , where Don put his degree to work for a few years before they relocated to Sanbornville, NH.  His subsequent working life was spent predominantly as a MATCO Tool distributor.  Plans to retire and enjoy traveling together in their motor home were sadly not to be realized due to the unexpected death of his wife in 1993, but Don carried through with travel including to California, Canada, Alaska, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, and Florida.  He lived in Florida for a while before finally moving to Lancaster, NH, to be near his daughter and her family there and not far from his son in Wolfeboro.  After his wife’s death, Don became very involved with the Episcopal Church, joining wherever he was - first in Sanbornville, later in St. Petersburg, FL, and finally in Lancaster, NH.

He was predeceased by his sister, Elaine Lombardi of Grafton, NH, and is survived by his devoted daughter, Joanne (Jody) Whiting, her husband, Kevin, and beloved grandchildren, Shawn and Jayme, of Lancaster, his devoted son Mark DeWolf of Wolfeboro, his sister-in-law Dianne Quayle and husband Bill of Wolfeboro, brothers Ted DeWolf and family of Zimbabwe, Africa, and Dan DeWolf of Framingham, MA, and by nephew Keith Rogers and family of New Durham, and niece Kristan Dix and husband Stephen of Annapolis, VA, as well as by several cousins. He is also survived by his loved “adopted family,” the Anthony and Lynn Rapozas of Sanbornville.

Always good-natured, with memorable one-liners, and a generosity enjoyed by many, Don knew how to enjoy the many gifts of life, especially deep sea fishing, travel, avid reading, appreciation and knowledge of history, friendships made wherever he went, and above all, love of his family.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, 118 High Street, Sanbornville, NH, on Monday, November 28, and arrangements are being managed by Lord’s Funeral Home in Wolfeboro.
