Welcome to the memorial page for

Elizabeth Ann Jennings

February 2, 2016

Wolfeboro, NH

Elizabeth Ann Jennings, 92, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 2, 2016. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and wife of her belated husband, Roy E Jennings, Jr.

She was born on October 11, 1923, in Wolfeboro, the eldest child of Herbert and Edith Scott Tinker (both active educators at Brewster and Carpenter). Her maternal grandfather, Nathaniel Scott was the first doctor in Wolfeboro and was active in founding both the Huggins Hospital and the First Congregational Church.

Betty first returned to Wolfeboro from Lunenburg, MA to graduate from Brewster Academy where she was named Carnival Queen. She graduated from University of NH in 1945. After working in Boston for a variety of different companies including GE, Betty accepted a position with the Haverhill's Girl Club where she was eventually the Executive Director.

The Haverhill Girl's Club is where she met her future husband, the late Roy E Jennings Jr. (thanks to Roy's mother who was a volunteer at the club). The couple lived in Groveland, MA for over 30 years raising 5 children. Her petiteness and kindness often masked her independence, strength and intelligence.

Betty moved from Groveland to her family home in Wolfeboro in 1995. She loved to have breakfast coffee with her late brother, Scott Tinker and sisters, the late Janet Tinker Lewis and Jo Ann T. Osgood. She was often seen with her beloved white shih tzu, Mitzi. In her later years, she loved sitting on her sun porch watching the birds and other wildlife in her backyard, with her “Kitty” by her side. She loved her visits from her children and grandchildren.  She was delighted by the antics of her youngest grandchild, Nathan with whom she shared a special bond. Family was her life, she loved family vacations and proudly enjoyed being wined and dined by her loving sons in local restaurants. Her Facebook appearances were often the most liked.

Betty was blessed with loving and attentive caregivers who helped her live out her final years at home which were always her wish. Betty was loved by many. Her grace, kind and gentle way made her a joy to be around, always surprising you with her mischievous wit.

Betty is survived by her five children, Peter S. Jennings of Waltham MA; David E. Jennings and his wife, Susan of Lorton, VA; Daniel N. Jennings, Haverhill, MA; Sandra L. Houle, Haverhill, MA and Tracy A. Ragan and husband, Joe of Ashfield, MA; her 6 grandchildren, Jennifer, Katie and Bucky Houle; Tyler Jennings and Peter VanAllen; and Nathan Ragan: and her 4 great grandchildren.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions (in lieu of flowers) to the Lakes Region Humane Society, 11 Old Rte. 28, Ossipee, NH 03864.

There will be a celebration of life at 8 Scott Road on Saturday, February 6 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Parking is available at the Kingswood Regional High School, which is directly across from Scott Road.
