Helen Bradley

Business Woman and Community Spirited Leader

Helen (Jockers) Bradley passed away peacefully on Friday, February 19, 2016 at her home in Tuftonboro, N.H. Known for her graciousness and kindness, Mrs. Bradley was with family during her brief illness. She had just turned 86 two weeks previously.

Mrs. Bradley was born February 3, 1930 in Flushing New York to Harold and Helen Jockers and spent her childhood in Darien Connecticut.  She graduated from Greenwich Academy and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wellesley College in 1951. Helen and her former husband Joe moved to Wolfeboro in 1954 where they established and owned Bradley’s Hardware for thirty years. She was an avid collector of antiques and co-founded Touchmark Antiques, which was a fixture in South Wolfeboro for many years. Helen’s interests went well beyond her career as a businesswoman and mother.  As a world traveler and supporter of the arts, she was also civically minded. With her sister, Dr. Carol Amick, she managed the Jockers Family Foundation which has helped many worthy organizations and causes both in the Lakes Region and beyond.  Mrs. Bradley always chose to work quietly and effectively behind the scenes.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Helen Jockers, daughter Carol Ann Bradley, and former husband Joe Bradley. She is survived by her sister Dr. Carol (Jockers) Amick and brother-in-law Dr. Robert Amick of Brookline, MA; her two sons, Jeb Bradley of Wolfeboro, NH and Jock Bradley of Hood River, OR; six grandchildren, Jan Bradley, Urs Bradley, Sebastian Bradley all of Steamboat, CO; Ramona Bradley of Seattle, WA; Remington Bradley of Seattle, WA; Ariana Bradley of Los Angeles, CA; one great grandchild, Amelia Bradley of Steamboat, CO; one nephew, Robert Amick of Sunnyvale, CA; three nieces, Helen Amick of Sunnyvale, CA; Joan (Amick) Kelly of West Newton, MA; Lisa (Amick) DiAdamo of Wellesley, MA;  along with an enormous collection of frogs in all shapes, sizes and personalities.

Donations in her memory may be sent to the Carroll County Visiting Nurse Association, PO Box 1620, Wolfeboro, NH 03894 or the Wolfeboro Food Pantry, Wolfeboro, NH  03894.
