James M. Harkins, 84, of Old Granite Road, passed away peacefully Monday, April 18, 2016 at his home.  He was born April 3, 1932 in Conshohocken, PA the son of the late Dr. Malcolm and Vera (Connor) Harkins. He had attended parochial school in PA and later received an Associates of Arts Degree from the Miami Dade Community College in 1976   

Jim was a very hard working man his whole life not retiring until he was 75 years old. He had moved to Miami Beach, Florida where he had worked as a Police Officer with the Miami Beach Police Department beginning as a patrolman then Canine Officer and retired as a Detective SGT.  In the late 1970’s following his retirement he moved to Ossipee, NH where he began working a whole new career for the former Brockhouse Metal’s Factory in Wolfeboro, NH which later became Wolfeboro Products, a plastics company.  After retiring from there he went to work for Affinity in Ossipee, NH which later became Lydall.

He served his country in the US Army from 1954 to 1957.  He loved working around his home and was also active for several years as a Civil war reenactor as a member of the 5th N.H. Co. A.  He truly enjoyed history and especially the Civil War period.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Deborah (Kirkwood) Harkins, Ossipee, NH his children, Deborah Harkins Henning, Phoenix, AZ, Keith Harkins, Missoula, MT; Christin Harkins, Effingham, NH; Sean Harkins, Dover, NH; Bevin Harkins Cook, Missoula, MT; Kirk Pochelon and his wife Lauren, Wakefield, NH and Danielle Pochelon, Ossipee, NH, several grand and great grandchildren.  He also leaves behind a sister Alice Bellemere, Conshohocken, PA, a brother Joseph Harkins and his wife Rita, Norristown, PA several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brothers Francis Harkins, Malcolm Harkins and a son Michael Harkins.

Calling hours will be Friday, April 29, 2016 from 6-8 PM at Lord Funeral Home, Wolfeboro, NH.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church, Alton, NH on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 11:00am. Interment will be held at a later date.
