Philip Allen Meader

September 23, 1949 ~ June 6, 2016 (age 66) 66 Years Old

Philip Allen Meader, 66, of Gonic, NH, died peacefully at his home on Monday, June 6, 2016, after a long illness.

He was born September 23, 1949 in North Conway, NH, the son of Frank H. Meader and Annie O. (Blanchard) Meader.  Phil grew up in Ossipee.  Shortly after graduating from Kingswood Regional High School, Wolfeboro, NH, he joined the US Air Force, doing a tour of duty in Vietnam serving as a Sergeant.  Later he attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and graduated from Plymouth Teacher's College, earning a degree in Science and later a Masters Degree in the same field.  While doing this, he worked on and supported the fire departments of West Ossipee, NH, and Plymouth, NH.

Philip dedicated his career to teaching in Plymouth, Rochester, Dover and retiring from Great Bay Community College, where he was a professor from 2000 - 2015.  Phil's dedication to his job was appreciated by his students and colleagues alike.

In 2013, 4 decades after he served his country, Phil was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.

He lived in Gonic, NH, for many years while following his vocation and enjoying his pets and his perennial gardens.  This home also provided ample space for him to cultivate his favorite pastime of building model schooners and collecting antiques, such as a unique collection of clocks.

His neighbors such as Jason and Beth were good friends and attentive to his needs as the illness progressed.  A very special friend, Betsy Camp of York ME, who, with her husband, has remained close for many years, always supporting his life style and adventures.

Philip was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Frank III and Douglas.  He is survived by his brother, Donald, of Center Ossipee.  He leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

At his request there will be no calling hours.  Graveside services will be held Friday, June 17, 2016, 12:30PM at the NH Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy Rt. 3, Boscawen, NH.
