Audrey C. Shean

September 28, 1920 – December 7, 2017

Topsham, ME –Audrey Shean passed away peacefully onThursday, December 7, 2017 with family nearby.  Up to her last weeks, Audrey was a charismatic fixture of the Highlands of Topsham, ME where residents and staff knew her well.  Even after ninety seven years, she refused to give in to her age and achieved her long-stated goal of living longer than her siblings.

Audrey was born September 28, 1920 in Saugus, MA to Herbert and Gertrude Amidon.  She grew up in Saugus and graduated from Saugus High School with the class of 1937.  She married S. Wayne Shean on January 18, 1942 and settled in Lynn, Massachusetts where she soon became an active member of her community and the Boston Street Methodist Church.  Her volunteer work included Tracy Elementary School PTA President, years with the Red Cross as a driver and on Blood Mobiles, and untold years as a loyal member of the Eastern Star. Her Eastern Star service included being a Past Matron of the Tontoquon Chapter No 100 of the order of the Eastern Star, serving as an officer in three states, and filling in whenever someone was absent in local Chapters until a short time before her passing.  Clearly, she knew her rituals cold.  While not serving others, she enjoyed reading so much she would finish a book she started even if it didn’t interest her.  She also loved to knit, crewel, and quilt where her work was always perfection.

After her husband retired, they settled in the picturesque town of Tamworth, N.H. on Great Hill Road.  Her volunteer activities continued at the Remick House, Food Pantry, Onaway Club, and the Tamworth Congregational Church.  She cherished her friends and all the great times they shared as well as the beautiful view she had of Mt.Chocorua from her kitchen window.  Following Wayne’s passing in 2004, she moved to the Highlands in Topsham, ME to be closer to family.

Audrey is survived by her sons, Hayden, his fiancée, Dianne Bechta, Arthur, and his wife, Gail.  In addition, she leaves her five grandchildren, Kristen Harris, Elizabeth Kronberg and her husband Stephen, Heather Delphin, Derik Shean and his wife de Sha, and Kerryn (Shean) Merrill and her husband Todd as well as eight great grandchildren, Adam Harris, Nicole Valles, Ethan Walker, Cole Kronberg, Griffin Merrill, Porter Merrill, Hadley Merrill, and Makenzie Shean.  She also leaves her nephew, Robert Amidon and Niece, Lois Amidon as well as many great nieces and nephews.

She loved her family especially her two sons and her grand/great grandchildren.  She leaves a void in our lives but we will remember her as we are wrapped in her quilts of love.

Audrey’s family will host a visitation on Monday, December 18th at the Lord’s Funeral Home, 50 Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee, NH from 1-2 PM followed by a Memorial Service.   In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in her honor to the order of Eastern Star, Red Cross, or a library of your choice.
