Gregory Ernest Pratt, 58, passed away on September 23, 2017, in Columbia, South Carolina. Gregg was born August 22, 1959 in Wolfeboro, NH to Ernest and Roberta Pratt. Gregg was a graduate of Kingswood Regional High School and the New Hampshire Technical College in Berlin, where he studied Natural Resource Management.
Gregg entered the United States Air Force in 1982, and served with distinction for 23 years, retiring at the rank of Master Sargent in 2004. Gregg traveled the world with the Air Force, being stationed in Manila, Iceland, England, and various locations in the US. His last station was at Shaw AFB in South Carolina. Gregg settled in the Sumter, SC area after retirement and began a 12 year second career at Lowes Home Improvement, where he worked in the Garden Center.
Gregg loved the outdoors, and plants and animals. Gregg was an avid photographer. Indeed a third career for him was as a professional nature photographer. His work won critical review from both the professional community and his many friends and fans of his work. Gregg was most at peace when he was in the woods, with his camera. Gregg was a kind and gentle soul, witty and caring. He will be dearly missed by all his friends and family.
Gregg is survived by his father, Ernest Pratt, Brothers Robert and his wife Donna, and Christopher and his wife Meryl;, and Sister Sandy and her husband Richard, nieces Hannah, Amy, and Kristen, and nephews Wade, Sam, and Steven. Gregg was predeceased by his mother Roberta in 2013.
Gregg loved the state parks in South Carolina. A memorial boardwalk in Gregg’s name is being constructed at Poinsett State Park. He would be honored to know that his friends have supported the park system he loved so much.
A memorial service for Gregg will be held at The First Christian Church, Wolfeboro, NH on Saturday October 28th at 11AM. Visiting hours will be held at Lord Funeral Home, Wolfeboro NH, the night before, October 27, from 6-8PM.
