Joseph "Jack" DeVries Obituary

Brookfield, NH

Joseph “Jack” S. DeVries, 85, of Brookfield NH passed away suddenly at home on February 22, 2019. He was born on September 29, 1933 in Prospect Park NJ. He was the son of the late Cornelius and Greta (Van der Veer) DeVries. He is predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Farren DeVries. He is survived by his wife, Lois, of 6 years; 2 brothers and one sister; 2 sons, Jack (Susan) of Brookfield, NH and Craig (Lisa) of Middletown, DE, 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Jack served his country in the United States Air Force and then Air Reserve. He was also a member of the Freemasons. Upon discharge from the Air Force, he established a home milk delivery service in Kinnelon NJ. While there he served his community as a volunteer fireman, eventually obtaining the position of Fire Chief.

Then Jack and his wife moved to Cedarville NY where he lived and worked for 9 yrs. They moved to NH in 1990 and established a lovely home here. He worked for Index Packaging in Milton NH until he retired in 2017. His love of playing country music introduced him to many wonderful friends and musicians in the area. Jack was a gifted musician and could play just about any instrument he picked up. He enjoyed playing his mandolin on the worship team in his church where he met his loving wife Lois.

He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. Those who wish to pay their respects to the family are welcome to the services honoring his life at First Congregational Church of Ossipee on Wednesday February 27, 2019 from 3 PM to 5 PM. A burial will be forthcoming in the spring.
