Martha (Micki) Denu passed away peacefully on December 11, 2019, in Wolfeboro at age 82. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she graduated from Dominican High School in 1955, where she was the class Valedictorian. From 1955 to 1964, she was an Executive Secretary for Eastern Airlines and Sabena Belgian World Airlines. This provided her the opportunity to vacation throughout Europe and parts of the Middle East. In her spare time, she enjoyed competitive roller skate dancing and water skiing.
In 1964, she met her husband, Gene, in the Sperry Ski Club (snow skiing), and they lived in Greenlawn, NY. She spent many years dedicated to raising their two daughters. She was an excellent seamstress and made her own clothes, as well as clothes for their children. Later, Micki worked in a fabric store giving sewing lessons. She completed a Fashion Program at the Parsons School of Design in NYC in 1982, and also worked in the Greenlawn Library for ten years. Her hobbies included playing the piano, competing in duplicate bridge events, and playing tennis, at which she was very accomplished.
In 1995, Micki and Gene retired to Wolfeboro, where they had been summer visitors for many years. Micki joined the Wolfeboro Tennis Club and the Kingswood Golf Club and played both regularly. She also joined the Governor Wentworth Arts Council and was the Treasurer of Artists in the Park for seven years. As a long-term cancer survivor, she was an active supporter of local cancer groups and fashioned headwear to donate to several hospital cancer centers.
She is survived by her husband Gene, married for 55 years; daughters and son-in-laws Karen and Michael Grisz, and Jeanine and Steven Dudle; sister-in-law Penny Hicks; and sister and brother-in-law Hiltrude and Robert Winn.
Arrangements are being managed by Lord Funeral Home, Wolfeboro. There are no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be planned at a later date.
