Patricia Rankin Obituary

Wolfeboro, NH

Patricia Mae Rankin 90, native of Wolfeboro, NH, passed away Wednesday evening, December 11, 2019 with family by her side.

Pat was born October 28, 1929, in Carroll County, daughter of the late Louise and Fred E. Varney. Pat was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Leslie C. Rankin in 2011.

She is survived by her daughter Bonnie (Brian) Lord and her grandson Benjamin (Tina) Lord and their children Alec & Zoe, and her grandson Burke (Emerald) Lord.  Her daughter Tracey (Dan) Richardson and their children: Cody, Kurt, Mark, Joy (Drew) Collins, Seth and Adam. Her daughter Kathleen. She is also survived by her sister June Brown and niece Cindy Davis.

Pat lived all of her 90 years in Wolfeboro, NH. She attended the one room schoolhouse on South Main Street and graduated from Brewster Free Academy, Wolfeboro, NH in 1947. She attended Chandler School for Women and became the voice of the Huggins Hospital switchboard.

She met Les Rankin in 1950 and was devoted to him and missed him deeply and dearly. Pat and Les were regulars on The Casino dance floor and were absolute poetry in motion as they ‘cut a rug’.

Pat was the very first patient of the repair of a hole in the heart at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston in 1959. Many citizen’s of the Town of Wolfeboro donated the blood for her needed transfusions. Following her surgery Pat became involved with the American Heart Association.

She and her husband were co-chairs of the Huggins Hospital Street Fair, Wolfeboro, NH.  She was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church of Wolfeboro, NH where she was involved with the All Saints Fair every summer. Pat’s penuche fudge was a favorite!

Pat had a love for a competitive game of bridge and a challenging jigsaw puzzle. She was always a whiz at word search and crosswords puzzles and was a voracious reader. She was known for her kindness and strength throughout the community and will be sorely missed by all, but especially her family.
