Peter Smith Obituary

Peter Van Zandt Smith, 85 passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of June 13, 2019.  Peter was born on May 16, 1934 in Rochester, NY to Doris Louise (Sackett) Smith and John Sanford Smith.  He received his degree in Mathematics from St. Bonaventure University in New York State.  He also studied Management at Penn State University.  He specialized in Environmental Management and Marketing at Air Preheater in Wellsville, NY and Research Cottrell in Somerville, NJ. 

Peter married his first love Gail Annette Gleason on May 4, 1957 and lived for many years in Wellsville NY.  He then moved his family to Phoenixville, PA where he began work for Research Cottrell.  He married Judith Ellen Trudeau on April 19, 1986.  Peter and Judy retired in 1999 and moved to Wolfeboro, NH where Peter purchased Wolfeboro Bay Outfitters and operated it successfully for 5 years.  He then started his own business, Amoxy Environmental, marketing a coal catalyst (CC-88) to Asian, Indonesian, Indian, Polish and Kosovo markets.  He was still active in his business at the time of his passing.

Peter was a kind and gentle man, passionate about kids, animals and people in general.  He was a great sports fan following many sports teams throughout his life including the Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins & Celtics as well as the Eagles, Flyers and 76ers. He was also an avid fan of Formula 1 and NASCAR, having spent many a Sunday on hard benches with his brother-in-law Roger.  His favorite career was as the owner of Wolfeboro Bay Outfitters where he came to know many fishermen and hunters and where he was known to trade a few stories with them on occasion.  He was also an active member of the Wolfeboro Lions Club, taking a special interest in Camp Pride, New Durham, NH - a camp for children with health conditions.  Peter was a fan of Nolan’s in Wolfeboro, spending quality time on Friday nights with his wife and friends Ted, Kathy, Jerry and Patty and Andy the most important man in there.

Peter was preceded in death by his father, John and his mother, Doris, his eldest son, Scott, his grandson, Matthew, his sister Sandra and his first wife Gail Gleason Smith.  He is survived by a brother Roger of Webster, NY and a sister Jonatha and her husband Roger Caimano of Rochester, NY.  He is also survived by his wife, Judith E. (Trudeau) Smith of Wolfeboro and their son Nicholas T. Smith and his wife Stephanie of Tequesta, FL.  Also surviving are children from his first marriage to Gail (Gleason) Smith:  Leisa Stoudt and her husband Carl of Plymouth Meeting PA, Michelle Krieg and her husband John of Glenmore, PA, Todd Smith and his wife Deana of Bradenton, FL as well as his grandchildren, Robert La’nave, Ryan and Conner Krieg and Brendan, Justin, Lacey, Austin, Cheyenne Smith and many nieces and nephews.
