Richard Stockbridge Obituary

Richard Carter Stockbridge, 78, of Tamworth, New Hampshire, passed away on August 2nd in Tamworth, NH.

Richard was born in Wolfeboro, NH to Lavinia “Affie” Merrow and Willard Carter Stockbridge on October 29, 1939.  He went to school at Kennett High School in Conway, NH where he played football as part of Kennett’s 1958 state championship team.  He married Grace Agnes Barranco on June 9th, 1966 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Center Ossipee, NH.

He studied to be a journeyman electrician in Memphis, Tennessee and after moving back to West Ossipee, NH, worked for Public Service Co. of New Hampshire (now Eversource) for 28 years, retiring as Line Superintendent for the Chocorua District.

He led a life of service to his community and beyond by serving in the Army National Guard as well as being a member of the Lion’s Club and Knights of Columbus.  He continued his life of service as a police officer for COPD, Lieutenant in the Center Ossipee Volunteer Fire Department and an EMT with Ossipee Rescue Squad. Later in life, he volunteered at the satellite congregate meal in Tamworth, NH run by Ossipee Concerned Citizens.  While doing all that…he still got his private pilot’s license, built his own house, made furniture, was an avid hunter & fisherman and he would say, “And a damn good shot.”.

Richard is preceded in death by his loving parents, Lavinia and Willard, his wife, Grace A Stockbridge and his brothers, Roland C Stockbridge and Willard Stockbridge Jr.

He is survived by his daughter Melissa Stockbridge of Salem, MA, his sons, Richard C Stockbridge II of North Hampton, NH and Michael J Stockbridge of Warner, NH, his brother Dennis M Stockbridge of Fayetteville, TN, his grandchildren, Angela Stockbridge Carruthers of Natick, MA, Robin Stockbridge of Wakefield, NH and Samuel Stockbridge of Warner, NH.

Visiting hours will be held 6pm – 8pm Sunday, August 19th at Lord Funeral Home, 50 Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee, NH 03814.

A graveside service will be held 11am Monday August 20th at Chickville Cemetery with the Reverend Patricia Williams officiating.
