Rodman Lawson Dickie, 96, of Sugar Hill, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 in Wolfeboro, NH.

He was born November 23, 1920 in East Braintree, MA and had lived in Arlington, MA until 1986 when he and his wife Barbara moved to Wolfeboro and in 1999 to the Sugar Hill Retirement Community.

Rodman was a graduate of Arlington High School, Class of 1938 and later the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.  He had served in the Merchant Marines from 1939 to 1960 then again from 1980 to 1985 retiring as Chief Mate Deck Officer. His book, Saved by a Series of Miracles, focuses on his cargo ship experiences during WWII.

Rodman worked as a Clerk at the First National Bank of Boston for several years.  He was a 50-year member of the First Baptist Church of Arlington, MA and a member of the First Christian Church of Wolfeboro, NH as well as an active member of the Gideon’s International.

Throughout his life he loved spending time on Lake Wentworth at his family’s camp.

He was predeceased by his wife Barbara (Sexton) Dickie of Wolfeboro, NH and is survived by his daughters Pamela Gore of Marblehead, MA, and Sara Buttrick and her husband John until recently of Bedford, MA; three grandsons, Daniel, Jacob, and Michael Buttrick and their wives Darleen, Heather, and Kristen; and four great grandchildren, Lydia, Emily, Smith, and Paxton. He was looking forward to the birth of his fifth great grandchild.  Rodman also leaves behind a brother Paul Dickie of Wolfeboro, NH and a sister Ruth Waldron of Brooklyn, NY.

There will be no calling hours.  Graveside services will be held in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington, MA, Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 11:00. A memorial service will be held in Wolfeboro at a later date.
