Avis T. Patten

Avis T. Patten, 98, of North Main Street, Wolfeboro, NH passed away peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2021 at her home with her loving family by her side. 

Avis was born January 26, 1923 in New York City the daughter of the late George G and Frieda (Carlson) Thyge.  She attended New York City School and graduated from Evander Childs High School in 1940.  She later graduated from Pratt Institute with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutritional Science and later earned her Master’s Degree from Columbia, University. 

Avis served in the US Army as a dietitian from 1944 to 1947.  She worked with the Nutrition Bureau, Department of health.  She was later recalled to the Army in December of 1950 and served until 1952 during the Korean Conflict as a 1st Lieutenant in the Women’s Medical Specialist Corp.  Following her service she worked for the American Dairy Council in Westchester County, New York. 

In 1954 she married John C. Patten, MD and they lived Salt Lake City, New York City and Minnesota until moving to Wolfeboro, NH where she became the Dietitian for Huggins Hospital for 5 years and was the Nutritionist for W.I.C Program for 8 years. 

Avis was predeceased by her husband Dr. John C. Patten in 2010. 

She is survived by her children, John C. Patten, Jr. and his wife Jolinda, Wolfeboro, NH; Craig T. Patten and his wife Cindy Lynn, Wolfeboro, NH and Christopher Patten and his wife Cindy-Sue, Wolfeboro, NH as well as five grandchildren, Kristy Patten, West Newfield, ME, John Patten III, Wolfeboro, NH, Ryan Patten, Ashland, NH, Camden Patten, Wolfeboro, NH and Tristan Patten, Wolfeboro, NH and two great granddaughters Samantha Staples and Allie Staples, Limerick, ME.  She was also predeceased by a grandson  Craig Patten Jr., West Newfield, ME and a sister June Kelly. 

There will be no calling hours.  Graveside services will be held 1:00pm on Monday August 9, 2021 at Lakeview Cemetery, Wolfeboro, NH.
