Barbara D. Williams, 91, of Center Tuftonboro, NH passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023. Born in Melrose, MA on May 30, 1931 she was the daughter of the late Clifton and Dorothy Davis.
Barbara spent her first eight years in Wakefield, MA before her family moved to Grafton, NH. There her family ran a woodworking and wood-novelty business. Barbara attended high school in Lebanon, NH, graduating in 1949. After high school she worked in the family business and took lessons to learn Early American Decoration.
Barbara moved to Tuftonboro after marrying Roger L. (Bill) Williams in 1955. Together they built a home and raised their family at Swett’s Corner. Barbara became an active member of the Melvin Village Community Church. She served on many different committees through the years, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and played the hand bells.
Barbara joined the Hikers in 1958. She actively supported the goals of this group for over 50 years. She was a member of The Order of Eastern Star. When her daughters were involved in Rainbow, she became the Mother Advisor. She served in that position from the mid-70’s into the 80’s, mentoring many young women. During this time she and Bill took up Square Dancing, taking lessons with the Wolfeboro Wranglers and traveling to dances several times a week.
Barbara became a juried member of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration in 1982. She developed her own unique style known for its detail and careful brushstrokes. Many of her pieces can be found in homes throughout the area. One of her gourd ornaments found it’s way onto one of the Clinton’s Christmas trees at the White House.
Barbara was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, great grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed.
Services: Visitation and Calling Hours will be Friday, June 9 from 5 to 7 at Lord Funeral Home, 23 Club Lane, Wolfeboro, NH, 03894
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 10 at 1:00 at the Melvin Village Community Church. Family and friends are invited to attend.
