Cecily Clark

Cecily Clark of Ossipee, New Hampshire, died on Sunday November, 23, 2025, at the age of 91.

Clark passed surrounded by family and dear friends after a brief illness. Clark was born in 1934 in Boston, Massachusetts to parents Philip and Marion Clark. As a child she lived in Lexington, Massachusetts with her parents and two sisters.

She attended Concord Academy and then went on to Smith College for three years. Later in life she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Goddard College and began work toward a Master’s degree at The Bread Loaf School of English and The University of New Hampshire. In her lifetime she taught at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire and at The Community School in South Tamworth, New Hampshire. She participated in the Artists in the Schools program and was Poet in Residence in Shaftsbury, Vermont, as well as teaching in Elderhostel.

After teaching, she went on to work as an apprentice carpenter and gardener. She was a member of the distinguished American Alpine Club, an honorary trustee at Concord Academy and founded the Ossipee Children’s Fund. She enjoyed time in the mountains both far and near, summiting The Matterhorn in the Alps when she was 18 and later building a cabin atop Moody Mountain in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.

She spent the later years of her life devoted to her gardens, sculpture, and reading—always with a beloved poodle by her side. She was a dedicated steward of the environment and woodlands, owning lands that are protected by conservation easement. She is survived by her two children, Cecily C. Long of Boston, Massachusetts, Perrin H. Long and his wife Julie Maher-Long of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, and two grandchildren, Perrin R. Long of Cambridge, Massachusetts and Madeline V. Long of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at 75 Pork Hill Road Ossipee, NH 03864.
