Every morning, over a cup that held more creamer than coffee, Chris read the news and obituaries religiously. So, we would be remiss not to write one for him, even if it fails miserably at capturing his enormous life.
Never one to back down from a fight, over the last few months Chris showed the strength and courage that so defined who he was. But on Friday, November 29, 2024, surrounded by those he loved the most, Christopher Shane Housley passed away following a brief battle with cancer. A Mainer through and through, Chris grew up and spent most of his adult life in Kittery, fishing Sea point and Long Sands, riding the roads and trails on his single speed, sharing beers with his friends, and generally being a nuisance to the local authorities.
If you knew him, you know Chris lived life by his own set of rules, but when it came to his kids EJ and Anna (Housley), partner Kelly (Lord), brother Shawn (Housley), and SIL Jessica (Housley), niece/goddaughter Delaney (Housley), nephew/godson Andrew (Housley), extended Lord family, and his countless bike, beer, and fishing friends, he was the ultimate protector and a steadfast supporter. He was the kind of guy you could always count on to show up.
He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, deep generosity, and enormous spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of adventure and fearlessness, and a rust-box C10 sized hole in the lives of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.
A memorial open house will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Scotland Fields, 250 Cider Hill Rd, York, ME. All who knew and loved Chris are welcome. A proper Housley-style celebration of life will be held in the spring. Details will be shared at a later date.
Chris’ greatest pride was his children, EJ and Anna. A Go Fund Me has been set up to help raise funds for their continued care and support. Any amount is appreciated Donate here.
