Cora Evans Obituary

Cora Grace Evans, a lifetime resident of Tamworth NH, passed peacefully at home on January 11, 2025. She was 90 years old.

She leaves behind her son, Frank Evans Sr. and his wife Lynne Marie of Tamworth; her daughter, Joan Evans of Connecticut; her five beloved grandchildren, Diana, Almon, Frankie, Nicole and Sebastian, and two great-grandchildren. She also leaves her brothers, Roy "Buddy" Grace of Oklahoma; Larry Grace and Jere Grace of Tamworth; John Grace of Massachusetts; and her sisters, Barbara Davis of Texas and Patti Marion of Florida, along with many nephews and nieces across the country. And finally, the McAllister Family of Illinois and Erik Peterson of Tamworth, who loved "Nannie" as their own. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Glenn Evans; her parents, Roy and Clara (Moore) Grace; her sister Janette Anthony, and her brother Robert "Bobby" Grace.

The eldest child of the Grace Family of Whittier, her ancestors were some of the first pioneers to settle in Tamworth with a deed from King James I that allotted them "100 acres from the Bearcamp River to the top of Mount Whitter". A passionate historian, Cora spent much of her life combing the archives, cemeteries, and oral histories of the area, studying her heritage and making records to leave behind for those who followed her. She will be remembered for her humor, her matter-of-fact, her kindness, her devotion to her family, and her pride in her community and its history. And many adults in Tamworth will remember her as the nice lady who handed out the best homemade molasses cookies and Tootsie Roll Lollipops every Halloween of their childhoods.

There will be no formal calling hours. A private graveside ceremony is being planned for the spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Cora's name to the Tamworth Community Nurses' Association, (PO Box 352, Tamworth, NH 03886 or www.tamworthnurses.org) who made it possible for her to be cared for at home until the very end.

Lord’s Funeral Home is handling arrangements, and condolences can be left on their website, www.lordfuneralhome.com.
