We are sad to announce the passing of our sister Cynthia J. Hodges on Tuesday December 28th, 2021.
Born on May 15, 1953 in Great Falls, Montana, to a semi-nomadic military family, she arrived in Melvin Village before her first birthday and remained in Melvin for the rest of her life.
Cindy was the daughter of Col. Burgess Gardner Hodges and Priscilla Gray Hodges and graduated from Kingswood Regional High School, Wolfeboro, NH in 1971. She had a 20 year career as a chef in some of the best restaurants in the area. She also earned her certification in massage therapy and it became her great passion. Cindy was an avid Kayaker, Bicyclist, and Cross Country Skier. After surviving a stroke in 2005, she worked extremely hard at maintaining her independence, coming back time and time again from health challenges.
Cindy was a fiercely loyal friend and aunt, a terrific sister, and a wonderful storyteller. She was independent, stubborn, incredibly funny and quick witted.
She is survived by her brother, Burgess Gardner Hodges III and his wife Joan H. Hodges, sister Nancy Hodges Perry and her husband Keith E. Perry, eight nieces and nephews, Mehera Schaeffer (husband Steve) Julia Hodges, Frances Hodges (husband Chris Adams), Anne Hodges (partner Joel Conley), Sara Hodges (partner John Wright), Gess Hodges, Clara Hodges (fiance’ Carter Andross) and Kyle K. Perry, and four great nieces and nephews, in addition to many wonderful cousins.
Many thanks to the community of friends and family who helped her through the last few years. She died with her family around her. The fight is done.
A service for Cindy will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, January 8 at the First Congregational Church of Ossipee, 50 NH Route16B, Center Ossipee.
Cindy was an ardent lover of all animals; those who wish may consider a donation to The Lakes Region Humane Society in 11 Old Route 28, Ossipee, NH 03864.
