Dale Ashley Obituary

Dale Kent Ashley, 82, of Wolfeboro, NH, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. True to form, Dale kept his wry sense of humor right through his last days in the hospital—cracking jokes, lifting spirits, and reminding everyone why he was so deeply loved.

Born on April 20, 1943 in Ware, Massachusetts, Dale grew up in Amherst, where he discovered the mechanical aptitude that would shape his life. Working on cars in his dad’s auto dealership and garage, he learned early on how machines worked—and how to fix just about anything. That knack carried him to Western New England College, where he earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering.

After college, Dale began what would become a lifelong career at General Electric in Lynn, Massachusetts. He played a vital role in building GE’s ability to produce and maintain propulsion systems for large ships and submarines—work he was quietly proud of, even if he didn’t talk about it much.

But the true centerpiece of Dale’s life was never work—it was family. He married his high school sweetheart, Marion Casey, on June 22, 1963, beginning a 62-year partnership rooted in devotion, humor, and steadfast love. They lived their marriage vows fully, standing by each other in sickness and in health, always side by side.

Together they raised two daughters, Brenda and Dorie, who were his pride and joy. Later, Dale found a whole new kind of happiness in his grandchildren, whose accomplishments and adventures delighted him endlessly.

Dale had a deep love of nature and the water. He built a camp in East Alton, New Hampshire on Lake Winnipesaukee, where he spent countless days boating, puttering around the property, and enjoying the peace of the lake with family and friends. And when he wasn’t on the water, he could often be found behind the wheel of a fast car, especially his beloved Corvette. Cruising with the New Hampshire Corvette Club was one of his great joys.

Over the years, Dale and Marion also traveled widely—exploring national parks, cruising to Alaska, exploring Bermuda, and soaking in the sunshine of the Caribbean. Yet no matter where they went, home was wherever they were together.

Dale is survived by his devoted wife, Marion; his daughter Brenda and her husband Claudio; his daughter Dorie and her husband Dale Sturgill; and his grandchildren John and his wife Abigail, Gabriela, Caitlin, Allison, and Camden. He is also survived by his brother Stuart and his wife Linda, and his sister Marilyn. Dale was predeceased by his grandson Jacob, who passed away in 2020.

At this time, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dale’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
