David Straw Jr. Obituary

David G. Straw Jr., 76, of Center Tuftonboro, NH, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024, at Concord Hospital-Laconia, surrounded by his loving family.

He listened to his favorite Country Classics until his last breath, a fitting tribute to a man who cherished his family and music.

Born on August 17, 1948, in Manchester, NH, David was the son of the late David G. Straw Sr. and Hazel M. (Berry) Straw. He spent his early years on Orange Street in Manchester before moving to Moultonborough, NH, as a teenager.

David met his soulmate, Sandra (Smith) Straw, while attending Kingswood Regional High School. They fell in love and were married on February 18, 1967. Together, David and Sandra raised two children, Gail I. Straw and David G. Straw III. As a family they enjoyed attending local horse shows and 4-H events, fostering a love for community and tradition. David was especially known for his handcrafted wooden tack trunks, which he generously donated for raffles and awarded to high-point participants.

David had a distinguished career as a Boom Truck Operator for Winnipesaukee Lumber in Wolfeboro, NH, where he was a valued member of the original crew until his retirement. Friends and colleagues affectionately referred to him as Cowboy, Tex, or Straw Bucket. In retirement, David embraced his passions, spending quality time with family, enjoying woodworking, and attending cruise nights and car shows in his cherished 1956 Cadillac. He was a dedicated supporter of his three grandchildren by cheering them on at horse shows and ball games.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; daughter, Gail; son, David III, and daughter-in-law Alysia; grandchildren Noah W. Straw and his fiancée Ashley, Nathanael D. Straw, and Lucas N. Straw; his brothers Daniel W. Straw his wife Alyce and Dennis M. Straw (half-brother) his wife Tracie Lynn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tuftonboro Fire & Rescue in David's name. David's warmth, creativity, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
