David James Pollini, Born April 16, 1939, passed away unexpectedly on December 18, 2023.
Dave spent almost his whole life in Wolfeboro, NH. A town he loved and was very proud to be a part of. His parents James and Lillian, along with his sister, Priscilla, lived on Pine Street. He grew up attending Carpenter and Brewster Academy where he excelled in baseball, soccer, and basketball.
Moving on to Boston University as a full scholarship athlete he became co-captain of both the soccer and baseball teams. In baseball he hit .396 his 4th year and still holds the single game scoring record for soccer with 5 goals in one game! He earned his biology major. And was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He still had his fraternity brothers from Boston University come to visit him in Wolfeboro!
He then moved back to Wolfeboro and became a biology teacher at Brewster Academy. Immediately coaching soccer, hockey, and baseball alongside his mentor Pop Whalen, and good friend Mal Murray. While teaching and coaching he finished his master’s degree at Plymouth State University at night. And was elected to the Brewster Hall of Fame in 2004.
Dad met our mother Ann in 1960 when she moved to Wolfeboro from Augusta, Maine. There she was the head OR nurse at Maine Medical. She worked at Huggins Hospital as a nurse and taught skiing at Moose Mountain. They married in 1962 and lived in Brown Hall at Brewster Academy and had their two children Susan and Jay.
After leaving Brewster to teach at Kingswood High School for a short time, he then focused his time as the head Pro at Kingswood Golf Club. There he was the Pro for 38 years. Ann and Dave worked together running the golf club, having fun with all the members, and creating a golfing family. Ann and Dave arranged many years of golf trips for their friends to Bermuda, St. Kitts, the Bahamas, and the Dominican. They went to Maui with Stu and Jean Stinchfield compliments of one of his Brewster students and good friend, Scott Werner. He played many tournaments in his lifetime. He played in a memorable Club Championship against his father Jim. We played many father’s days with David, Jim, and Jay playing holes. He loved to play at North Conway and made many friends in the valley.
After retiring from Kingswood Golf Club, he was most often seen at Dave’s PGA Golf Shop on Lehner Street, or he would be driving his golf cart up the sidewalk to go play holes in the evening at Kingswood. He always had a twinkle in his eye and was very generous to anyone in need. There were not many people he would meet that he did not bring up golf and try to give them a free lesson or just talk about golf. Dad’s love of golf continued through his life and played golf with me (Jay) only 3 months before his passing.
Dad had an amazing zest for life all along struggling with a few health issues most of his life. We would like to thank Wentworth Douglas Oncology and Dr. Henry Sonnaborn for the kindness given to our father.
Our Dad was kind and was an amazing father. Golf every evening, golf shop during the day, hauling brush in the yard, and mowing his acreage. He loved his dump runs and talking with everyone in town! His life was in constant motion, and he said if I die tomorrow, I will die with a smile on my face. I have lived a wonderful life and I love you both more than you know! We will miss you dad with all our heart, but we know you are with mom again.
David positively impacted the community and will be remembered fondly for years to come by those who knew him. He will truly be missed by his loved ones especially. DPoll, as he was fondly called, will forever cause people to smile as they remember him.
He is survived by his daughter Susan and son Jay along with her partner Buddy, and Jay’s wife Natasha and daughter’s Anya and Aria. His sister Priscilla lives in Somersworth, NH with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren!
David's burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Wolfeboro, NH at 11:30 am on June 15, 2024. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Pinckney Boathouse at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, NH from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm following the burial.
