Donald Lee Johnson passed away on July 6, 2025, at Wolfeboro Bay Center in Wolfeboro, NH. Born November 28, 1935, in Bruceton, TN, he spent most of his life in Kansas City, retiring to Wolfeboro, NH in 1996.
Donald graduated from Webster High School in Kansas City and went to the University of Kansas, where he was Captain of the rifle team and Air Force ROTC. A proud Jayhawk, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1958. During college, he interned at Butler Manufacturing Company; he joined the company full time after graduation. Donald was a respected structural engineer, contributing to various industry organizations including the Metal Building Manufacturing Association. At his retirement party, after more than 40 years at Butler, he fondly remarked that he always looked forward to Monday mornings.
Donald met his wife, Sandra (Sandi), on a blind date, and they married in 1961.They lived in the Kansas City area, where they raised their daughter, Heather, until retiring to Wolfeboro, NH. Don was active with many local organizations and was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church.
A lifelong lover of Porsches, Don found joy in spending Saturdays in his garage, listening to the Metropolitan Opera on the radio while working on the engines of his numerous Porsches. He was a member of the Porsche Club of America (PCA) for over 40 years, forging lifelong friendships through the club. Donald’s hobbies included photography and collecting fountain pens.
Donald is survived by wife, Sandra, and daughter Heather (Karl) Barnhart and pre-deceased by a daughter, Roxanne, and his parents Howard and Lillie Johnson.
A celebration of Don's life will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Wolfeboro, NH on August 16th at 11:00 am.
