Donna S. Shockley, 79, of Wolfeboro, NH, passed away peacefully with family by her side at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital on July 11, 2025. She was born on February 28,1946 in Dayton OH, the eldest child of Dr Donald Shimler and Jeanadele Shimler (Magner).
Donna married Robert E. Shockley on August 27, 1966. Together they had three children, predeceased infant Todd Robert Shockley, Kara Shockley Jankowski and James Ethan Shockley. The family resided in Lynnfield, MA from 1976 to 2003 before moving to Wolfeboro, NH.
During high school Donna was very active in church choirs where she met her future husband Bob. After graduating from Greenwich HS, she attended Allegheny College in Meadville, PA then transferred to Northeastern University in Boston, MA. She obtained her BA in Sociology while Bob graduated from Northeastern with degrees in Mechanical Engineering.
Donna planned amazing family vacations and they visited Cape Cod beaches, Maine lakes and Myrtle Beach, SC. Years later, Donna and Bob traveled in their Lazy Daze RV; favorites are Chewonki Campground in Wiscasset, ME and Topsail Hill Preserve State Park at Santa Rosa Beach, FL.
In 1990 she obtained her Master’s in Counseling at Lesley University in Cambridge MA. She worked at North Reading Middle School as a guidance counselor until 2003. Donna and Bob had a home designed in Hidden Valley, which became the site of many family and friend gatherings.
In Wolfeboro Donna volunteered with Great Waters Music Festival, where she reconnected with her HS Music Director, Dr Gerald Mack. Later they sang regularly with Clearlakes Chorale, Director Andy Campbell. You may have also met Donna at the Country Bookseller where she worked for many years.
Donna is survived by her devoted husband Bob, and their children, Kara Shockley Jankowski (Robert Jankowski) of Barrington, NH and James E. Shockley of Wolfeboro, NH; her grandchildren, Connor Jankowski and Finn Shockley; her sister, Diana L. Young (Richard Young), as well as her nieces, Tammy Chinn and Adrienne Chinn; her stepsister Ann B. Augustine (Ted Augustine) and nephews Thatcher and Gavin Taylor. Donna was blessed to join a large family that included Bob’s six brothers and sisters; Cynthia Jaffee (Bill Jaffee), Bill Shockley, Dick Shockley (Beverly Shockley), Deb Shockley, David Shockley (Linda Shockley), Sarah Shockley; as well as many of nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on August 9, 2025, at First Congregational Church of Wolfeboro at 10:00 am, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to the Special Olympics and/or Heifer, Int’l.
