Dorothy L. Osgood Brooks, age 92, of Freedom, NH, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025.
Born on May 4, 1933, in Denmark, ME, youngest of 7 children of Leroy A. and Ida Richardson Osgood. Dotty married John Brooks of Freedom, NH on October 18, 1952. She was known for her love of family, genealogy and Freedom’s history. Dotty was also known for her homemade doughnuts!!
Throughout her life, Dotty found joy in sewing, knitting, and other assorted handcrafts. She was a Sunday School teacher and a 4-H Leader. Her passion for genealogy took her all over New England, Canada and the National Archives in Washington, DC. Dotty worked for 5 years with her friend Bill Cutler to document and publish a book of Freedom’s many cemeteries. She also compiled and printed a booklet on recipients of The Boston Post Cane in Freedom.
She is survived by her four children, Bonnie Burroughs of Freedom, Karen Hatch (Rob) of Freedom, Timothy Brooks of Freedom and Donna Miller (Arthur) of Wilmot, NH, grandchildren Amanda Hatch, Alicia Derouin (Ken), Daniel Hatch and Shaun Miller, and great-grandson Silas Feuerborn. She leaves many nieces and nephews, all the way down to a great-great-great-great-great nephew and niece. Dotty was preceded in death by her husband John, grandson Jeremy, her parents and 6 siblings.
There will be a graveside service at a later date.
