Edward Joseph Young Obituary

Edward Joseph Young 93, of Wolfeboro NH, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026. Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife of 73 years, Lois (nee Burdick), and by his loving parents, Edward and Dorothy and his brother, Paul (Veronica). Ed is survived by his adoring children, Edward (Betsy), Deborah Huber (the late Michael), Peter (Debbie), and Mary Swan (Steve), 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Ed was born in Buffalo, NY and graduated from Canisius High School in Kenmore, NY. Despite raising a growing family and working for Linde Air Products, and on the weekend working for his father’s grocery store, Ed graduated early from Canisuius College. In the midst of transferring to Indianapolis in 1960, Ed completed the requirements for the newly popular MBA degree from the University of Buffalo. He was named the Manager of Administration at the Speedway Laboratories Linde division of Union Carbide. Five years later he was transferred and was named the controller of the Korad Corporation, a subsidiary of Union Carbide in Santa Monica, CA. Three years later he crossed the country again with his family to Chappaqua, NY and worked at Union Carbide’s headquarters on Park Avenue in NYC and later in Danbury, CT, specializing in Acquisitions and Divestitures. Ed spent his entire career at Union Carbide and one of his favorite assignments was as President of Domsea Farms in Seattle WA, a salmon ranching company in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

He was well-known to his colleagues and friends as a first-rate problem-solver and a masterful chess, pinochle, and bridge player. He was a loyal friend with a wonderful sense of humor, and was always lightning quick with a pun. Growing up, Ed loved playing sports and he passed his love of sports on to his children. He was their first basketball, baseball, ping pong, and football coach. He had the most inventive playbook for front yard football games. He loved it when the teams were the Youngs against the neighborhood. In later years, Ed and Lois enjoyed playing tennis, together and separately, with their family and friends. Ed remained a very loyal Buffalo Bills fan through thick and thin years. Ed and Lois enjoyed wonderful, long retirement years in Rancho Mirage, CA and in Wolfeboro, NH.
