Frances Finegan Obituary

Frances Finegan, of Lancaster, MA. went home to the lord on November 6, 2018 in Melvin Village, NH after a short illness. She was born May 14, 1923 to Wilson and Mildred Evans (Shorey).

She was predeceased by her companion Nathan Schwartz, and her three brothers Richard, Albert and Douglas.   She is survived by her sisters-in-law Janice and Jean Evans and nephews: Lane (Dawn), Scott, Grant (Andy) and many other nieces and nephews.

Frances was a very interesting woman; intelligent, down to earth, wholesome, she had a wonderful sense of humor and was interested and curious about everything; she was always researching whatever piqued her interest.  No Computer… she either went to the location or to the library to seek out what she wanted to know.

Her biggest gift was her interest in people, she had a welcoming personality which made it very easy to talk to her. She invited conversations with anyone, was nonjudgmental, and truly enjoyed learning about people’s lives and experiences.  She had an incredible memory right up to her death and often told stories of her many travels in this country and abroad. She visited almost every state, including Hawaii and Alaska. She and Nathan also went to France, Italy, and Israel.

Frances belonged to many organizations including: Arbor Day Foundation, The Conservation Foundation, Appalachian Mountain Club, she was concerned about Native Americans and their children. She donated to many organizations: St. Jude, Shriners Hospital for Children, and the Lakota Indians.

She loved flowers and plants, especially coleus. If she was pruning the plant, she would place the cuttings into a jar of water to root. Then she could start another plant. She always had jars of rooting plants all winter.  Her coleuses are spread far and wide in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, and even Arizona, anyone and everyone was welcome to take one home.

Frances was a quiet lady who was much loved and will be dearly missed.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday December 9th, 1:00 at the South Tamworth United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flower, donations can be made to one of her favorite charities or Central NH VNA & Hospice.
