Jacob McConkey Obituary

Jacob Marc McConkey was born Oct. 9, 1992, at Memorial Hospital in North Conway, NH. He passed away June 27, 2024, at Maine Medical in Portland, ME. Jake was 31 years young and resided in Freedom, NH.

Jake grew up in Ossipee, NH next door to his grandparents’ home in Skandia Estates. Educated in Ossipee, he attended both Kingswood and Kennett High School when we moved to Freedom. But make no mistake, Jake proudly referred to himself as an “O Town” boy.

Jake took pride in his family and friends and was never shy to offer a humorous quip or a story. To say Jake was not opinionated was to not know him. While he had a business degree, he fancied himself a self-taught surveyor, doctor, attorney, and citizen land planner.

Growing up in a contractor’s family, he first mastered the two most important pieces of machinery at a young age: the rake and the shovel. Since Jake was fourteen, he took shifts at M & V Convenience, where he came to know so many of you in our community.

Jake was a Boy Scout who enjoyed playing youth sports, guitar, and drums. He loved making music, boating, walking his dogs, riding his motorcycle and giving bear hugs.

His childhood friends remained his extended family throughout his life. Alexis and Jake met nine years ago at a musical festival, became his bride, and the focus of his life. Together with their daughter, Lyla, they were blessed by the birth of their twins, Axl and Myles, 10 months ago. No man I know enjoyed his role as a father more than Jake. Diapers and feedings were not a chore, but a welcomed event, and all those activities were journaled in his loose-leaf notebook, we suspect, in case he somehow forgot.

Jake remained a tall, handsome man with a broad smile, possessed confidence, charm and a never-ending abundance of enthusiasm. Jake had a relationship with God, knew family came first, and was always willing to help a friend or a community cause.

Jake is survived by his wife Alexis, daughter Lyla, and twin sons, Axle and Myles, parents Carol and Mark, brother Dale Erik and his wife, Jaime, their daughters Rhylie and Maelyn, sister Victoria, her fiancé, Ryan Britland and their son, Bentley, grandmother May Lundberg, along with countless aunts, uncles, and cousins who reside across our blessed country.

While there are no words to express our loss, Alexis and our family encourage you to pack a smile and join us for a joyful celebration of Jake’s life on July 21, at 5:00 pm at the Preserve in Tamworth, NH.
