Jacqueline Lewis Obituary

Jacqueline Helene Lewis died on January 14, 2025, in Wolfeboro, NH, at age 94. She was born in Hackensack, NJ, to Elwood David Gillespie and Helene Christian Buell. In 1952, she graduated from nursing school and married Ludwig Clifford Lewis Jr., MD. Jackie and Cliff raised five sons in Malvern, PA, and spent summers at the Jersey Shore in Mantoloking, where they moved full-time upon Cliff’s retirement.

A lifelong bowler and avid golfer, Jackie had a fierce competitive spirit.  She loved her annual family vacations at Rockywold-Deephaven Camp in Holderness, NH, where she could spend the day canoeing and fishing and not even think about the shenanigans her five boys were considering. She loved dogs, especially dachshunds, and could not bear to be without one in the household.  She was married for 63 years to her adored husband, Cliff.

Her husband, parents, and granddaughter, Bernadette Lewis, preceded her in death. Survivors include her children: Steven (Ann Colie) of Stafford, CT; Mark (Cynthia Richmond) of Bay Head, NJ; Jeffrey (Debra) of Ashland, WI; Eric (Paula) of Wolfeboro, NH; Evan of Grafton, NH; brother David E. Gillespie; sisters-in-law Anne L. Benedict and Lucy S. Ramsdell; grandchildren Lark, Carrie, Jackie, Stevie, Allison, Shane, Emily, Runyon, Peter, Jonathan, and Raymand; step-grandchildren James and Paul; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service and celebration of Jackie will be held in the spring in Mantoloking, NJ, on a date yet to be determined. Special thanks to Andrea Godinez, the staff and nurses of Mountain View Community, Ossipee, NH, and Huggins Hospital, Wolfeboro, NH, for their kindness and loving care of Jackie in her final days. If you desire, please donate to Save Barnegat Bay in her honor.
