Jean Corbin Obituary

Jean V. Corbin, a former resident of Manchester, NH for 42 years, died at the age of 79 on February 17, 2025. The daughter of Robert and Hope (Byron) Jeffers, Jean was born in Worcester, MA on June 25,1945, the third of four children.
Jean graduated from Worcester State College in 1967 with a degree in Elementary Education and was a member of the National Honor Society in Education. In July of the same year, she married her first husband, W. Brian Markot, and relocated to Laconia, NH.
In the fall of 1967, Jean began her teaching career, hosting a first-grade class at Gilford Elementary School. Her teaching efforts were curtailed however in favor of family, as she welcomed three sons over the next six years. In 1977, she and her family relocated to the West Side of Manchester. When her sons were of school age, Jean resumed her educational pursuits, teaching elementary education at St. Anthony of Padua for the Diocese of Manchester and later at the Beech Street School for the Manchester public school system. Additionally, she tutored numerous students over the years outside of the classroom, supporting their educational efforts. Overall, Jean followed her lifelong dream of teaching, proudly educating hundreds of students for more than 40 years.
Following her teaching career, Jean returned to college, where she became certified in American Sign Language and supported the deaf community in Manchester. In her younger years, Jean expressed her love for music as a cellist and was mentored by a former student of the legendary composer Dvoƙák. As an adult, she served as a member of the Women’s Spirit Song Group of Manchester, thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to serenade family and friends on several occasions. Jean also enjoyed nature hikes and was an avid bird watcher. Most notably, she loved the shore, be it the ocean or the lake, and spent a considerable amount of family time near the water.
Her greatest joy, however, was her family. Throughout her life, Jean made an effort to pass down generational family customs. Whether it was telling bedtime stories, going on summer vacations to the beach, cooking favorite family recipes, hosting family game nights, or celebrating holiday traditions, she provided a strong foundation, strengthening the family, helping her children and grandchildren build a sense of family identity, and making family experiences very special.
Preceded in death by her second husband William D. Corbin, from her first marriage Jean leaves her sons: Peter Markot and his wife Connie of Frederick, MD, Stephen Markot and his wife Stephanie Slabon of Exeter, NH, and Timothy Markot and his wife Sara of Steep Falls, ME. From her second marriage, Jean leaves her stepchildren: W. Douglas Corbin of Kihei, HI, Maureen Clucas and her husband Christopher of Columbia, SC, James Corbin and his partner Jadder Cardona from East Greenwich, RI, and Jennifer Ayrey and her husband Curtis from Rockledge, FL. She also leaves her grandchildren: Steve Ronayne, Chelsea Markot, Jaiden Lawless, Jakob Lawless-Markot, Riley Markot, Madeline Markot, and Jon Markot, and her step-grandchildren: Desiree Pena, Emma Corbin, and Zoë Corbin.
