Joan Burpee Ashton 1928-2021
Joan Burpee Ashton, 93, peacefully passed away Thursday December 30, 2021 at Mountain View Community, Ossipee, NH.
Joan was born February 28, 1928 to Maurice and June Burpee. She attended school in Braintree, MA. and after graduating Braintree High School in 1945 went to work at the Boston Safe and Deposit Company in Boston. A few years later she met Bradford Ashton and they were married in August of 1951. After being married, they spent a brief time living in an apartment in the Fenway area of Boston before settling in Norwell, MA. where they raised 3 children; Richard C Ashton, Peter B. Ashton, and Meredith Ashton.
In 1975 they moved to Amherst, NH. where they lived for a number of years before making their final home in Wolfeboro, NH. Joan loved Southwest Indian jewelry and spent a few years working at L'Authentique in Nashua, which featured beautiful items from the Southwest.
Joan was totally dedicated to her family and was always the happiest when hosting her family and friends in their Wolfeboro home. She lived long enough to see 3 great grandchildren born. For many years she volunteered at the Huggins Hospital Street Fair where she could be found manning the Linens tent with her sister Janice Jones. She had a life- long love of opera and classical music and when ill health forced her to enter the Mountain View Nursing Home she donated a very large collection of music cd’s and videos to the Wolfeboro library.
Joan is survived by her children, Rick Ashton and Meredith Ashton, 4 grandchildren Geoffrey Ashton, Peter VonIderstine, Amy Mann, and Elizabeth Ashton, and 3 great grandchildren children, Donn and Rylee Mann and William Ashton.
Joan spent the last 5 years of her life in the Mountain View Community in Ossipee, NH. The family would like to offer our utmost thanks and gratitude for the wonderful care she received there in the final years of her life.
There will be no public service as the family has chosen to celebrate her life privately. We will all miss her.
