John Frank Goodwin III

John Frank Goodwin III (“Jeff”), 80, of Wolfeboro, NH, passed away on June 2, 2024. Jeff was born on March 21,1944 in Wolfeboro where he lived for all his life on his family’s homestead. 

He was the son of John Frank Goodwin, Jr. And Ruth Halkett Goodwin.

Jeff graduated from Brewster Academy and the University of New Hampshire with a degree in Political Science. After graduating, he managed the family estate and cared for over 30 elderly people in his home who were referred to him by Huggins Hospital for over 40 years.

Jeff had a passion for New England history. The house where he lived has been the family homestead for over 230 years. It is one of the original King’s Grants and is the last one to remain in one of the founding families (Wiggin) of the area, of which he was so proud. Jeff loved displaying and learning about items that were in the house and barn from the 1700’s and 1800’s.

He looked forward to his weekly trips to antique shops all over New England with his sister, Joyce.

Jeff was a member of the prestigious Society of the Cincinnati because of his direct line of ancestry to a Revolutionary War officer. He was also a member of Sons of the Revolution, President of the Piscataqua Pioneers, NH Governor of Colonial Wars, Founder and Patriots, and the National Gavel Society.

Jeff is survived by his beloved sister and best friend, Joyce Goodwin Stanard; his nephew Scott Stanard and wife Sandra, niece Stephany Stanard, and his two great-nephews Aaron and Mark Stanard, all who were deeply treasured by him.

A graveside service was held at Lakeview Cemetery on June 13, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, it was Jeff’s and the family’s wishes that donations be made to First Congregational Church of Ossipee, 50 Rt. 16B, Ctr. Ossipee, NH 03814.
