Giovanni (John) James Nicastro Jr., 90 of Alton, New Hampshire, died peacefully on Saturday August 19, 2023. He was born on November 5th, 1932 in Garfield, New Jersey. The son of the late and Giovanni (John) Nicastro and Ann (Nee Curcio). He was the last surviving brother of Louise, Ernie, Peter, James, Florence, Maggie and Marie. From 1953 to 1955 he was a Private 3rd Class in the Army during the Korean War, Stationed in Fort Dix, New Jersey, working in Radio and Communications.
After being honorably discharged he met and married his wife Marie (Nee Licastri) in 1955 at Virgin Church in Garfield. They were married for 59 years, until she passed away in 2014.
He is survived by his children, Deborah Ann and husband Jeff Giannella, John James III, Kenneth John and his wife Linda, and Salvatore and his wife Maryann. His daughter Roseanne passed away in 2010.
He retired from Singer/Kearfott, Little Falls, New Jersey in 1990, after 30 years, working with the Aeronautics and Calibration Division and was instrumental in the calibration of the gyro systems for NASA’s Gemini Project. After his retirement, he worked side by side with his son at Sal’s Advanced Auto in Wolfeboro, NH for 29 years as a gatekeeper and scheduler until he officially retired in March of this year.
He was a grandfather to 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
There will be a viewing at Lord Funeral Home, 23 Club Lane, Wolfeboro, NH on Wednesday, August 23 from 5-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 40 Hidden Springs Road, Alton, NH on Thursday, August 24th, 2023 at 11:00am. Interment will be in the New Riverside Cemetery, 124 Suncook Valley Road, Alton, NH.
