Laurence M. Brownell Obituary

Laurence M. Brownell – 1/18/1921 – 5/10/2026

It is with deep respect and heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Laurence M. Brownell “Grampy” of Center Ossipee, NH, who departed this life peacefully on May 10, 2026, at the remarkable age of 105.

Many thanks to the care provided by so many for the past three years as a resident at Mountain View Community where he received excellent care and formed new friendships, especially with his neighbor, Peter Weeks. A very special thank you to his beloved caregiver, Jacquie Lee, for the many years of care, fun and adventures she shared with Laurence.

Laurence was born on January 18, 1921, in Effingham, NH, the son of David and Clara (Parker) Brownell. After being honorably discharged as a corporal in the Detached Medical Department of the U.S. Army Air Force Division in World War II, Laurence and Frances made their home in Center Ossipee and shared a long and loving marriage of 70 years. Employed by the Public Service Company of NH he retired after 31 years of employment. Laurence loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his hunting camp. He served as Town Treasurer and Supervisor of the Checklist for the town of Ossipee for many years as well as Commissioner for Center Ossipee Fire Precinct. He was an active member of the Ossipee Valley Masons Lodge No. 74. Laurence was also a member of the Moultonville United Methodist Church and was Superintendent of the Chickville Church Cemetery Association.

Laurence was predeceased by his beloved wife Frances (Williams) and a grandson Matthew Michael Conner as well as his siblings Harold, Chesley, Agnes and Frances.

He leaves behind his children: Melanie Conner and her husband Michael of Ashland, MA; Stephen Brownell and his partner Diane Drescher of Concord, NH; Debbie Brownell of Concord, NH; Michael Brownell and his wife Ginger of Freedom, NH. His grandchildren: Kimberly Jordan and her husband Tye of Marlborough, MA; Laura Conner of Medway, MA; Benjamin Brownell and his wife Danielle of Lyndonville, VT; Christine and Sam Brownell of Nashua, NH. His great grandson Isaac Conner Jordan of Marlborough, MA and a second great grandchild due in July to Ben and Danielle. Laurence also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, and numerous friends who frequently visited him during his residency at Mountain View – especially Charlie and Casper.

Known for his strong work ethic, witty humor, and love of popcorn and sweet desserts, Laurence touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him. He witnessed more than a century of history and remained a source of guidance and inspiration to generations of family and friends. Laurence “Grampy” leaves behind a legacy of honor, service, faith, and love that will never be forgotten.
