Lois Young Obituary

Lois Arlene Burdick Young, 92, recently of Bedford, MA, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025. Lois is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Edward. Lois was predeceased by her beloved parents, John and Bernadette Burdick and her three sisters, Janet Rasmussen (the late George), Karen Illingworth (Thom), and Mary Lynne Stewart (the late David). She is lovingly survived by her brother, Monsignor Thomas Burdick. Lois is also survived by her beloved children, Edward (Betsy), Deborah Huber (the late Michael), Peter (Debbie), and Mary Swan (Steve), 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews all of whom she treasured.

Lois was born in Niagara Falls, NY and graduated from Mount St. Mary Academy, in Kenmore, NY. Ed’s career took them across the country and Lois made close friends in every locale. She was active in community affairs serving as President of both the Indianapolis Junior Woman’s Club and the Indianapolis Newcomer’s Club. Lois continued her community service in Woodland Hills, CA and in Chappaqua, NY.

Lois loved parties, her rescued dogs, playing tennis, playing pinochle, and playing bridge. She was the number one fan and supporter of her children’s athletic events, school successes, and career achievements. After her children had grown, she found her second calling, working as a highly valued, influential instructional aide in the schools of Chappaqua, NY. She cherished the children whom she worked with, and lent a sympathetic ear to those students who needed it most. Throughout her life, Lois championed non-profit organizations that supported disadvantaged children. Ed and Lois enjoyed wonderful retirement years together in Rancho Mirage, CA and in Wolfeboro, NH with many friends and frequent visits from their family.
