Mark Winkley Obituary

Mark Dwight Winkley, 83 of Ossipee New Hampshire passed away on December 18, 2022 at his home, of complications from his battle with esophageal cancer.

Dwight was born on April 30, 1939 in Wolfeboro, N.H. to Mark Abbott Winkley and Mae Trask (Sawyer) Winkley. Dwight moved to Danvers Mass. When he was a couple years old and graduated from Holten High School. After high school he went into the army at fort Eustis in Virginia and was involved in transportation, where his love of trains grew.  After the Army Dwight worked most of his career at Hotwatt  in Danvers Mass and retired there as Supervisor in Shipping and receiving. In 2013 he moved back to the family farm in Ossipee to help care for his aging Mother until her death in 2020.

Dwight loved anything to do with trains and volunteered his time with many clubs around New England. He belonged to the Wiscasset Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum in Alna, Maine.  He also belonged to the Maine’s Sheepscot Valley Narrow Gauge railroad, and volunteered at the Seashore Trolley museum in Kennebunkport Maine. Dwight would take all of the new volunteers under his wing and show them how to work on the railroad and fix things right.

He will be remembered by many in his community for his annual picnic at the Winkley farm where he ran his own miniature railway and gave rides to visitors.

Mark Dwight Winkley is survived by his brother Dana (Buckey) Winkley of Rainy Pass Lodge, Alaska, his sister Lindamae Blair of Wakefield, N.H. His nephews Daniel, James and William Harding, His great nieces and nephews Daniel, Jacob, Alexandria, Zoey, Evan, Caleb and Isaac.

A service of remembrance for Dwight will be held on May 12, 2023 at 2 P.M at the Water Village Community Church, 370 Water Village Road, Ossipee, NH.  Dwight will be laid to rest in the Grant Hill Cemetery alongside his parents in Center Ossipee.
