Mark DeWitt Obituary

Mark Stephen DeWitt, 65

Fort Myers, FL and Wolfeboro, NH  – Mark DeWitt, 65, was born on February 9, 1956 in Boston, MA to Jean and Richard Chase.  He was raised in Rhode Island by his grandparents Gerry and Dorothy O’Connell there met his beloved wife of 37 years Shelagh (Dwyer Maynard) DeWitt.  Mark passed away on Monday June 28, 2021 at his home in Wolfeboro, NH surrounded by his loving family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by their 3 children – Jennifer Daft of Bradenton, FL, Kenneth Maynard of East Providence, RI and Jonathan Maynard of Dennisport, MA.  His 3 grandchildren - Madison Daft, Kaden Daft and Lily Maynard were blessed to have had Mark in their lives.

Mark grew up in Warwick, RI and enjoyed his summer vacations with his grandparents at Lake Winnipesaukee.  He attended Our Lady of Providence High School in Rhode Island and put himself through Business School graduating from Providence College in 1978.

He worked as a computer programmer in Rhode Island before relocating to Trinity, Florida.  In 1984 he met and shortly thereafter married his soulmate Shelagh Dwyer Maynard.  They became an instant family.  In 2009 Mark became the Managing Partner of the family business at Chase’s Ocean Grove cottage community in Dennisport, Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  More than a partial owner Mark committed himself to maintaining the charm and history of living in a cottage on Cape Cod for the 239 families that owned and vacationed there.  In addition, he became a business partner with Rob Brennan in the development of a new “pocket” neighborhood, Heritage Sands, in Dennisport.  This was the first new development in the area where 63 new homes were built and has been an unqualified success for the community.

Mark was a selfless, caring and giving man never wanting the spotlight on himself.  He lived to make others happy.  He lived to bring joy to others particularly his wife, children, and grandchildren and loved to gather the family for holidays and memory making.  He was dedicated and took pride in the upkeep of tradition, beauty, and happiness for the cottage owners of Chase’s Ocean Grove.

His love for Shelagh was evident every day.  Shelagh’s deceased mom often called him “Shelagh’s Guardian Angel.”

The family is extremely grateful for the care and compassion that was shown by the hospice team from Granite VNA. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Mark’s memory to Granite VNA, 30 Pillsbury Street, Concord, NH 03301.
