Mark H. Stengel passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Wentworth-Douglas hospital in Dover, New Hampshire with his loving family by his side. Mark was born in Rockville Centre, New York on September 23, 1956 to Arthur J. Stengel and Muriel S. Stengel.
He was a graduate of Norwalk High School 1975 where he played the trumpet in the school band for four years. He loved scouting and the outdoors and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
Mark attended the University of Connecticut from 1975 to 1977. He followed the lead of his father Arthur and Uncle Henry (Casey) entering the Air Force in August 1977 where he achieved the rank of Sergeant stationed at Pease Air Force base in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Arts degree and major in Communications. Mark was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1982 and proceeded to join the US Postal Service for a total of 44 years of federal employment before retiring.
He was predeceased by his father Arthur, step father, John (Jack) R. Burleigh, mother Muriel S. Burleigh, Brother in-law David Wolfenden and stepson Jarid A. Moody. He is survived by his wife Sue, the love of his life. His step daughter Keri Harrington, her husband Matt Harrington, grandchildren Aaron Watt, Parker Harrington and Danika Harrington, his brother Art Stengel and wife Debbie Stengel, his sister Leslie Wolfenden, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mark’s passions were his garden and the camp at Horn Pond. He learned gardening from Grandpa Sunbury where the genes carried deeply. Like his grandfather, he was so proud of the harvest and the bounty he could offer family, relatives, neighbors and friends. His loving wife would extend this period of deep fulfillment with canning 100’s of jars from the harvest.
There will be a celebration of life for Mark in the summer of 2026 at Camp on Horn Pond in Acton, Maine.
