Marvin "Dick" Harris Obituary

Marvin Richard “Dick” Harris passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, after a period of declining health following a fall while walking with his walker—his most cherished daily activity in his beloved community of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.

Born on August 15, 1929, in Boston, Massachusetts, Dick lived a rich and meaningful life defined by his positive outlook, a deep love for adventure, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.

Dick met the love of his life, Arlene Harris, in Denver, Colorado, and they shared 36 wonderful years of marriage until her untimely passing from cancer. Together, they built a home filled with exploration, learning, laughter, and a lasting appreciation for nature.

An avid outdoorsman, Dick passed along his zest for life to his children through countless cross-country road trips and a wide array of activities—from sailing, kayaking and tennis to biking, hiking, skiing, and swimming. He believed in embracing life fully and inspired others to do the same.

Professionally, Dick worked as an accountant for his father’s ship brokerage business in Boston. Beyond his career, he made a lasting impact in his community by founding the youth soccer league in Westwood, Massachusetts—just one example of his dedication to giving back and creating opportunities for others.

Above all, Dick was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother. In his later years, he moved to the Taylor Community in Wolfeboro, where he continued to walk daily with his beloved walker, staying connected to the outdoors that had always brought him joy.

He is survived by his three children: Kathy Harris, Mike Harris, and Ken Harris, along with their spouses. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Marvin Harris and Max Adam, the son of his stepdaughter, Priscilla. He is also survived by his younger brother, Don Harris. His legacy lives on through them—and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He will be honored and remembered at a small, private celebration of life in Cohasset, Massachusetts—a place where he spent many cherished summers with his family at his parents’ home.
