Matthew Hale, 69, of Wolfeboro, passed away unexpectedly on May 20, 2026. Born at Huggins Hospital on October 22, 1957, he was a lifelong resident of Wolfeboro. Matt was well known throughout the community as the proud owner of Hales Professional Turf Service, where his dedication and friendly nature left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Matt attended Kingswood High School and was a star triathlete in baseball, basketball and football. He then attended Springfield College where he played basketball and baseball. He was an avid golfer who found joy on the golf course, where he made many cherished friends and memories. He was once Club Champion at Kingswood Golf Course in 2001, among many other awards, which lead to his self-proclaimed nickname as “King of Kingswood”.
His charisma was contagious; a true one-of-a-kind soul that could light up a room. More than anything, Matt treasured the time spent with those he loved most. He especially loved spending time with his granddaughter, Sylvie.
He is survived by his loving children, Brittney Plourde, husband Zack, and daughter Sylvie of Windham, Maine, Robert Hale of Kona, Hawaii, and Elizabeth Hale and her partner Matthew Starbuck of Burlington, Vermont, his beloved partner, Sharon LaRosa of Center Conway, NH, his siblings Pam Ackley of Cleburne, Texas, Deb Skelley and her husband Chip of Wolfeboro, Steve Hale and his wife Leslie of Wolfeboro.
He was predeceased by parents, Robert G. Hale and Candace Anita (Thompson) Hale, his sister, Gay Edmunds, and his brother, Robert Tad Hale, and his brother-in-law William Ralph Ackley. Matt also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
