It is with great sadness that the family of Matthew Thomas Welch, of West Ossipee, announces his passing on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at the age of 52, after battling cancer. Matt will be lovingly remembered by his children, Katherine Welch, Elizabeth Welch, Thomas Welch, and Michael Welch, his parents, Donald and Barbara Welch, his siblings, Robin Wittrock and Doug Welch and their families, his partner, Kelly Marsh. Matt will also be lovingly remembered by the members of the West Ossipee Fire Department, where he volunteered for more than thirty years, and by many other friends.
Matt grew up in Freedom and attended Kennett High School. Throughout his life, he was an accomplished downhill skier and was also known to carve a mean spray while slalom water skiing. Matthew’s first passion, however, was his four children. He immensely enjoyed their company and took great joy in verbally sparring with them in contests of wit; nothing gave him greater pleasure than to be outwitted by his children. He was also very proud of their many accomplishments. This passion was followed by his passion for service as a volunteer firefighter; for more than three decades and most recently as Deputy Chief of the West Ossipee Fire Department, Matt gave freely of his time, sometimes risking his life, to help others in distress. Finally, Matt’s skill as a landscaper left his personal mark in the region, where he created many beautiful landscapes for his clients.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at Lord Funeral Home, 50 Moultonville Road, Ctr. Ossipee, NH 03814. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 28, 2018 at 11:00am at the First Congregational Church, 50 RT 16B, Center Ossipee, NH.
Memorial donations in memory of Matt may be made to the West Ossipee Fire Department, PO Box 643 West Ossipee, NH 03890.
