Nancy Clow Maher
Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and companion Nancy Clow Maher, age 85, passed away on March 14, 2023, in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, surrounded by her family.
Nancy was born at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro, NH, on May 29, 1937, to Ruth and Stephen Clow. She grew up in Rochester, NH, summered on Lake Wentworth in Wolfeboro, was an avid Girl Scout, and played the saxophone in the All New England High School Band.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Vermont in 1959, Nancy worked as an RN at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Buffalo, New York, and later at senior living facilities for a total of thirty-five years of dedicated nursing service.
In 1960, Nancy married Peter Edward Maher. They celebrated nearly 55 years together raising their three children, enjoying golf, creating ice rinks in their backyard, summering in Lake Wentworth (especially on the 4th of July!), and spending time with family until Peter’s passing in 2015.
Nancy loved playing cards, especially Bridge and Gin, and especially a lively game of Hearts with her family around the porch table at Camp. She volunteered over the years teaching Sunday School, co-leading a Girl Scout troop, helping with her sons’ hockey teams, and most recently serving senior meals. A book and a counted cross-stitch project were always nearby.
Nancy enjoyed gatherings with “her Girl Scouts” as well as her University of Vermont ladies and she treasured her friends made along the way as they lived in Tonawanda, NY, St. Charles, IL, and Santa Claus, IN, before returning to Wolfeboro.
Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Peter, and brother, Steve Clow. She is survived by her dear companion Bill Hazen, her sister-in-law Kathy and her husband Fred, her daughter Jane (Louis) and their children David (Katie), Stephen and Katie (Stephen); her son David (Debbie) and their children Kevin (Reese), Connor and Cullen; her son Stephen (Maryann) and their children Ryan and Eric as well as many cousins and friends that were very important to her.
