Obituary

Peter De Jager, Sr., 92, of Alton, NH, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on July 7, 2023, with his family by his side.

He was born June 26, 1931 in Ridgewood, NJ to Sadie (Bleeker) De Jager and Otto De Jager.  Pete graduated from Ramsey HS in 1950, where he was a leader and excelled at both basketball and football, winning many recognitions, league awards and a state championship and was honored by an invitation to the Heisman Trophy dinner in 1949.  He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War.  When Pete completed his military service, he joined his family business in NJ and worked as a Mason Contractor. In 1957, he returned to Spokane, WA to marry the love of his life, in his own words, "The Right Lady", Gwyneth.  They returned to NJ, where Pete worked as an independent Mason Contractor, then began his own Home Builder business which led him to becoming a Land Developer.  Pete and Gwyn moved their family to NH in 1970, where they enjoyed creating lasting memories with family and friends.

Pete's greatest joy was his family.  He led a life of unwavering faith and put his total faith in Jesus Christ.  His interest in sports was a lifelong passion.  His favorite teams were the teams of his children and grandchildren, and he seldom missed a game.   He enjoyed keeping detailed statistics on every game he attended.   Pete had tremendous compassion for animals.  He also had a lifelong passion for traveling and spontaneous adventuring, as he led his family on many cross-country road trips.

Peter was predeceased by his parents and 5 siblings. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gwyneth De Jager, their children, Peter De Jager, Jr. (Karen); Diane Jensen (Craig); Arlene Gaskell (Douglas Jr.); David De Jager (Wendy); John De Jager (Charla); Carolyn De Jager and Virginia Fitzpatrick (Blaise).  Peter was a dedicated Grandfather (Paka) to 21, Great-Grandfather to 5, Brother, Son, Uncle, Mentor and Friend. He was meaningfully involved in the lives of numerous nieces, nephews and their children. He'll be remembered for his generous heart and kindness by extended family members and dear friends, whose lives were enriched by him in so many ways.
