Philip Clarkson Obituary

Wolfeboro, NH

Philip J. Clarkson, 78, of Wolfeboro, NH passed away peacefully at Wolfeboro Bay Nursing Home on Tuesday, May 22nd, 2018.  He bravely endured a long debilitating illness, Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsy.

Philip was born in Worcester, MA in 1940.  He was the son of Dr. Amos Clarkson and Eleanor Moore Clarkson.  He attended Worcester Academy, Springfield College, Columbia University and University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

He had a long career as a guidance counselor at Wildwood Elementary School, Amherst, MA.  He affected the lives of hundreds of children and their families.

When Philip retired he moved with his wife, Dora, to the Lakes Region and took full advantage of the outdoor opportunities it offered.

He canoed and kayaked on the area’s lakes and hiked, skied and snowshoed on its trails and mountains.  Philip was an avid outdoorsman all his life.  A love of nature began very early with multiple camping experiences.

He was a devoted husband to his wife of 38 years, Dora Hart Clarkson, a caring step-father to Susan Kaspari of Somersworth, NH and her husband Steven Kaspari and Steven Antrasian of Belmont, MA.  His three grandchildren, Jackson, William and Andrea Kaspari were his pride and joy.  He also leaves two sisters: Rhondi Gleason, Wilmington, VT and Cynthia Eisner, Leominster, MA, two brothers: David Clarkson, Orlando, FL and Peter Clarkson, Hamilton, MN.  He will be missed by his siblings and their spouses and children and numerous cousins.

During his seven years illness, Philip received wonderful care from the many caregivers; Curtis Care of Tuftonboro, NH made it possible for him to remain in his home until the last three months.  Compassus Hospice Care provided additional resources and care givers, nurses, social workers and Chaplain.  His final days were spent at Wolfeboro Bay Nursing Home.  We are very appreciative of the devotion and competent care all the medical professionals provided.

A Memorial Gathering is being planned for later this summer.  Memories and condolences can be posted at the Lord Funeral Home website, www.lordfuneralhome.com.

Remembrances can be made in his memory to the lakes Region Humane Society, Ossipee, NH.   Phil loved his dogs, Chauncey, Sophie and Oscar.
