Richard Piper, age 76, of Mirror Lake, NH passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on January 20, 2024.
He was born on November 11, 1947, in Saco, Maine. He was the son of the late Stanley Piper and the late Irene (Champagne) Piper. He served in the United States Coast Guard on an icebreaker and traveled to the North and South Poles and was involved in “Operation Deep Freeze.”
He was a well-known builder in the area before his retirement. He was a master woodcraftsman and could fix anything and everything. He was also an antique and sports car enthusiast.
He cherished his family and was always quick with a joke and had a great sense of humor.
Family members include his wife of 57 years, Shirley (Ridlon) Piper; his brother, Dana Piper and his wife Marites Piper, and their daughter, Hannah Piper. Their children, April Carpenter of Ossipee, NH; Richard Piper and his wife Suzie Piper of Tuftonboro, NH; and Brandi Piper of Tuftonboro, NH. His grandchildren, Courtney McKenna and her husband, Martin McKenna; Shelby Carpenter and her partner, Dylan McKenna; Robby Carpenter; Benjamin Bedley and his spouse, Casey Callahan; Cassie Bedley and her partner, Milan Bivins; and Richard Piper. His great-grandchildren, Maggie and Ivy McKenna. He was predeceased by his sister, Rita Piper.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 2 PM to 4 PM at Lord Funeral Home, 23 Club Lane, Wolfeboro, NH. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Townhouse Cemetery in Tuftonboro, NH and will be announced at a later time.
